Dr. Jim Wall named Executive Director of TCAT
Dr. James Wall assumed the position of Executive Director for the Texas Center for Applied Technology (TCAT) on August 1, 2012. Dr. Wall joined TCAT in 1996 as the Director of the Computing and Information Technology division (CITD). He was an integral part of TCAT’s growth under the direction of its previous two directors, Dr. Don Dickson who retired from TCAT in 2010, and Ms. Cindy Wall, who was appointed the Texas Engineering Experiment Station’s Assistant Agency Director for Operations in July of this year.
Dr. Wall will continue his research efforts along with his new duties as Executive Director where he plans to bring his own unique style of leadership to the center. Current research areas include command and control systems, distributed modeling and simulation environments, and visual analytics. A large portion of his current research is related to establishing requirements and developing decision support systems centered on incident management training and emergency response.
Dr. Wall is a retired Army Acquisition Corps officer with twenty-two years of service. His last Army assignment was as a Senior Computer Scientist with the Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Dr. Wall holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science in System Technology (Command, Control, and Communications) from the Naval Postgraduate School. In October 2005, Dr. Wall was appointed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University. He is also the recipient of the Regents Fellow Service Award, and the TEES Engineering a Brighter Future Award.
