University XXI

University XXI is a partnership between the two flagship universities of Texas, Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin, in support of Army Transformation, focusing on the key component of digitization. University XXI is a result-oriented program that provides high-end technical support for the U.S. Army forces at Fort Hood by focusing relevant intellectual resources and research capabilities of the two universities on complex technical problems encountered during Army transformation. Participation from Army organizations has included the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO-STRI), the Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communications - Terrestrial (PEO-C3T), the Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the Army Operational Test Command (OTC) and III Corps. The Army's Director of Joint and Futures (DJF), a staff element of the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Programs (G-8), manages the program for the Army, solicits research topics from Army organizations and selects the tasks to be performed in the University XXI program on an annual basis through a formalized process.

Current Texas A&M University XXI Tasks for 2009

The following tasks are currently underway as part of the current year’s University XXI effort.

  • TRADOC Intelligence Support Agency -Threats – Develop a dynamic entity component runtime composition and a dynamic weapons seeking and acquisition capability for entity use in Army and Joint simulations. This is year one of a two year effort.
  • Operational Test Command – Expand the existing data visualization framework, from previous Data Visualization tasks, into a collaborative visual analytic environment that will allow teams of analysts in different locations to collaborate in the identification and analysis of interesting features within large datasets often produced in net-centric testing environments.
  • Central Technical Support Facility - Technical Division – Perform a technical study on the problem of defining the classes of unique measures (metrics) that will determine what software is present on a selected automation systems and the steps required to effectively use these effectively. These metrics will be a data component in a universal audit tool under development by the CTSF-TD Configuration Management department to conduct interrogations and audits of any system preparing to arrive to, or already at, the CTSF for certification testing.

  Texas A&M University Success Stories
